backstory
Matt Cooper was born and raised in the dusty outskirts of Las Vegas. In fact, his mother was a real, honest-to-God Las Vegas showgirl. She cradled him backstage in the Folies Bergère at the Tropicana hotel (see photo.) Only someone who is born at the intersection of fantasy and reality could do what he does.
It wasn’t long before Matt discovered the world of magic. He’d seen every magician on the Las Vegas strip by the time he was eight years old. But his interest became an obsession when he inherited a collection of books from his grandfather — an amateur magician — which included an obscure genre of magic known as mentalism. An art form that uses language, persuasion, and influence, together with magic, to create a powerful simulation of mental phenomena. Techniques which took him years to develop.
But what happened in Vegas didn’t stay in Vegas. After dropping out of art school, Matt left for New York City in 2010 to forge his own path. Almost instantly, he was invited to work with celebrity mentalist Derren Brown for two years on a show that toured England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland.
Since then, Matt has become one of the world’s top mentalists, and he’s invited around the world to speak and perform for industry leaders in business, art, and entertainment, because he provides a truly unique experience for those who thought they’d seen everything.
